What is PENSVM D?
PENSVM D is a set of lectures and worksheets developed to accompany Hans Ørberg’s Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series and to reinforce the lessons in the book titled Latine Disco. All of the texts in Ørberg’s LLPSI series are available for purchase at Hackett Publishing.
Why should I use PENSVM D?
PENSVM D is meant to develop your understanding of the grammar and syntax found in each chapter of the Lingua Latina per se Illustrata series (Pars I: Familia Romana and Pars II: Roma Aeterna.) While these elements of grammar and syntax are introduced naturally through the reading of the text, and while the explanations of these elements are introduced in the margin notes systematically as the student encounters them, Hans Ørberg’s invaluable accompanying text to the LLPSI series called Latine Disco gives a full explanation, in English, of every relevant new grammatical and syntactic feature in the text. PENSVM D reinforces the lessons taught in the Disco.
Where do I find the answers to PENSVM D?
The answers to PENSVM D are introduced in the Latine Disco text and explained in the lectures linked to this page. To answer the questions on the worksheet, you should read the corresponding section in the Disco and listen to the lecture linked on this page.
When should I use PENSVM D?
The best time to complete PENSVM D is just before the chapter test. In short, you should read the chapter (multiple times), work through and correct all of the Exercitia, study the vocabulary and margin notes, and complete PENSA A, B, C, and D. PENSVM D is the last activity you should complete before taking the chapter test.
How do I complete PENSVM D?
First, print the PENSVM D worksheet for your chapter. Second, read the appropriate section from Latine Disco. Third, watch the PENSVM D video on this page and answer the questions on the worksheet. You may need to pause the video frequently to do this. Some answers may require a little extra research in the Latine Disco or the Grammatica Latina, but most should be clear from the explanations in the video.
How long will PENSVM D take?
Depending on the chapter, PENSVM D should take approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
What are the Continental and American case systems mentioned in PENSVM D?
LLPSI uses the Contintental case order: nominative, accusative, genitive, dative, ablative. Most American texts and universities use a different order: nominative, genitive, dative, accusative, ablative. The PENSVM D videos on this site mention both orders for those who are adjusting to the new case order of the text.
