Our headmaster, Magister Josephus ‘Diodorus’ Klomparens (aka “Mr. K”), is the president of a classical non-profit homeschool co-op at his local church, a National Board Certified Teacher, a graduate of Hillsdale College with degrees in teaching and Latin, and a homeschool dad with seven children (three of whom are in college, and one of whom scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Latin Exam.)
Mr. K’s online classes prepare independent, homeschooled students for success using the internationally-acclaimed Lingua Latina per se Illustrata textbook series. There are many Latin textbooks designed for homeschooled students, but most of these either do not provide the rigor students need to succeed on national tests like the National Latin Exam or the SAT Latin Exam, or they become too complex for parents or co-ops to use. Our courses make the LLPSI text series, used by elite high schools and colleges worldwide, fun and accessible to homeschooled students.
All classes are provided online through a self-grading Learning Management System called Moodle. After enrolling in their class, students log into a Moodle account and are guided through their lessons with video tutorials, songs, guided conversations, quizzes, exercises, and other resources. Everything is automatic, self-guided, and self-paced. There is no classroom meeting time. Pacing is controlled by the student and the parent. Grading is automatically handled by Moodle, but ultimately parents and/or co-op teachers are in control and can override grades based on student needs.
